BUBBLE CAN Review: Night Sweats “Quitting”

0Night Sweats was back with a new episode last night on Adult Swim Canada! The live-action hosted compilation of animated shorts has become a staple of Adult Swim this Autumn, and this week I think I’m starting to see why. I was a tad harsh on the show last week, but I approached the show from a different angle. Did it end up being any good, just keep on reading to find out!

In Episode 9 ” Bart and Chris are replaced as hosts by a couple of computer chairs. More animated segments from “World Doctors”, “Don’t Feed the Humans”, and more.

Watching Night Sweats this week was a lot like watching it last week. Many of the criticisms I had last week carry over into this episode, except I believe the live action segments were handled better this week. Of course, the hosts were replaced by chairs for the majority of the episode, but even when they were there, it felt more grounded and the comedy felt tangible. I didn’t feel like I was being randomly yelled at. They incorporated stock footage of random people to represent their higher ups, which I thought was a hilarious touch. The chairs weren’t really funny, but the random things that they did were weirdly entertaining.

The animated segments of the show were pretty good. The “World Doctors” and “Don’t Feed the Humans” segments were a tad of a step back this week. I felt like they were stronger last episode, but everything else was really funny. Art Corner’s Tutorials, while being live action, was also pretty good this week.
Really it was more of the same this week, but what I think changed my mind about the show was really the state of mind I watched the episode in. I was exhausted, mentally fried, I didn’t feel like thinking. In that state of mind, I think this show works perfectly. It’s a lot of mindless stuff being thrown at you, a lot of it you don’t need to think about, and it’s great to unwind, not think too hard and just enjoy some craziness. This could come across as a bad thing very easily, I’m sure, but I think there is a lot of value in just giving an audience some odd and random humor. I really ate it up this week.

Overall, this episode was good. While I didn’t take away much else from this episode, I did get in a good amount of laughs and the live action segments were vastly improved. A step in the right direction for sure.
