Shorts Review: Descendants: Wicked World – “Mal’s Digi-Image Problem”
Spoilers Below
Mal is, once again, in her tent. She is spray painting a picture when Ben (the son of Beauty and the Beast), the newly crowned king, arrives. He tells Mal that she has a problem with her digi-image, which Mal tells him isn’t a word. Ben goes on to explain a digital image by showing her the photo from the end of the previous episode, where Mal and Evie exploded a cupcake on Audrey. Conveniently, the picture Mal is painting is of Audrey in her mother, Sleeping Beauty’s, pink dress. The king finds this ironic – the daughter of Maleficent painting the daughter of Sleeping Beauty. Mal laughs it off by magically putting Captain Hook’s coat, Cruella’s stole, and Maleficent’s horns on the painting. Just then, someone snaps a picture on their cell phone. The picture quickly gets uploaded and even Mal has to agree that she has a problem.
It’s interesting that the show is trying to weave all of their extremely short episodes together into one narrative. However, it is a little frustrating that the episodes are so short. I can understand why they aren’t live action, many of the actors are still involved in on-going (mostly Disney) projects. But I’m not sure why the episodes couldn’t be a couple minutes longer. Sure, this will keep the Descendants franchise in the kids’ minds while the second film is created. Is that a good thing though? The kids are more likely to grow tired of the characters and forget all about a second movie. As it is, these shorts are too short to really be good or bad. They just are.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
