Review: The Amazing World of Gumball ”The Others”
Spoilers Below
When Anais reveals that she’s in the grade above them at school, Gumball and Darwin’s eyes are suddenly opened to a whole new world of other students at Elmore Junior High. Gumball is horrified to learn that there are a bunch of characters who are barely aware of his existence and is determined to force his way into their lives.
Our new main characters include a depressed emo girl named Carole, her trying-to-be-cool teacher Mr. G., her bff Wilson Bilson, and the love of her life Jared. Gumball and Darwin really want to help Carole, but she wants none of it. So the two brothers decide to go nuts and fix all of Carole’s problems.
Our Take
By far, ”The Others” was the funniest episode of Gumball this season. I could not help but laugh heartily at Darwin and Gumball’s constant stalking of Carole. From pressing their faces up against a door, to hiding underneath the bleachers, and my personal favorite, the long bus ride at the end. The new characters were pretty funny, too, with Carole reminding me of almost every girl I went to school with and Wilson being the creepiest character to ever be introduced. ”The Others” might be code for ”Better Than”.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
