Review: Kirby Buckets ”Viva La Dad”
Spoilers Below
Kirby’s gotta go up against the most popular animators in school…the Babcock Twins. A competition commences between the two sides with Kirby betting one of his creations versus the survival of the Babcocks’ web series. Eli and Fish agree to help build Kirby’s audience.
Kirby needs to make a cartoon, but Dad gets in the way and causes a distraction. Or does he? As a matter of fact, Kirby’s dad becomes the star of his new cartoon featuring Macho Taco doing a shoryuken on him. Weirdly enough, the mere mention of farts gives him nightmares about shitting on a hamster and killing it in the process.
Eventually, Dad finds out about the now series of videos about him getting destroyed by cartoons, and his feelings are hurt. Soon, Dad joins forces with Kirby so that his son doesn’t lose the bet. They decide to love stream live-action takes of Kirby’s cartoons which almost goes sour had it not been for Fish’s farts which chased away the Babcocks from trying to cut the internet connection. Turns out, Kirby lets the brothers keep their cartoons and this was all for nothing.
Belinda joins a gang of Hover-rounds after Dawn ditches her. Dawn comes back and challenges Belinda to a race. They decide to quit the race and just go back to being friends.
Our Take
You know what sucks about this episode? There was a lot to like, but at the end of the day when you boil it down we just get cliched competitions. A race? Been there. I continue to love the idea of Kirby getting involved in more cartoon-centric episodes, but he seems to be relegated to competitions every week now.
The Belinda/Dawn race was rather comical, but short. Eli and Fish really contributed not a whole heck of a lot yet again. But, I like Michael Naughton and I like Jacob Bertrand and whenever they do Dad/Son stuff it looks so natural. I just wish we can come up with more original ideas to surround them with.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
