Review: Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero ”The Ripple Effect”

Pennzero

Spoilers Below

Penn needs to save his parents from the ‘Most Dangerous World Imaginable’, but Phyllis is completely against sending Penn in to do the job. Not wanting to live with his aunt and uncle anymore, Penn, Sashi, and Boone head to the theater on a mission to save the Zero parents. With no Phyllis supervision, Penn opts to go it alone, but ends up in the ‘Least Dangerous World Imaginable’. Naturally, Penn gets captured but is able to escape, but not without pretty much burning the entire planet to the ground. Penn heads back to Middleburg only to find out that Phyllis is here and she is PISSED and subsequently fires Penn right on the spot.

Sashi and Boone head to another dimension without Penn, but Phil also hears about Penn’s dismissal and lets both Rippen and Larry know. So while Sasha and Boone try and fix the ‘Least Dangerous World’, Rippen and Larry head off to finally win a victory over the good guys whom are now ‘Penniless’. Strangely enough, Penn decides to work part-time with Phil and is sent into action just as Rippen and Larry are about to take off with the planet’s population of Cutelings thereby destroying their planet forever. Together with Boon and Sashi, Penn fixes the planet and sends Rippen and Larry to a poopy planet. The three part-time heroes are zapped back to Phylis whom opts to give Penn his job back and vows to forever help him in his quest to get his parents back.

Our Take

Why can’t more Penn Zero episodes be 30 minutes long? This week’s episode was all sorts of kick ass and the ending left you on a hell of a cliffhanger. It’s not everyday you can see Penn Zero work for the bad guys, and the Cutelings were awesome. Their planet of puppies, pandas, kittens, and more, I think, made for the best planet yet. We had a couple of guest stars this week with  Kumail Nanjiani as Cute-ling Mayor and Kate Micucci as Cute-ling General, but if neither had showed up, I wouldn’t know the difference because they were almost non-factors. They didn’t really need to be…I was hooked from start to finish.
