Key & Peele ending; Which way will the animated series go on Comedy Central?
A year ago, it was announced that Comedy Central was developing a new animated series spin-off of the popular Key & Peele series. The name of the show is called “Vandaveon & Mike”, an animated take on the web series of the same name that really was just Key and Peele critiquing Key & Peele right after episodes aired.
The animated entry, which is in development, features the characters as 12-year-old hall monitors navigating their way through middle school. Rodney Barnes (Everybody Loves Raymond, Boondocks) is on board to exec produce alongside Joel Zadak, Allen Fischer and Brian Dobbins.
Well, what’s gonna happen now? It was revealed late last week that this will be Key & Peele’s final season on Comedy Central, so does that mean the animated series is done? Or will the animated series be the future of Key and Peele being a part of Comedy Central?
Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key are geniuses, and I have been an avid follower of their’s ever since they were cast members of MADtv. I would love to see an animated series with Key and Peele’s names on it, but as we saw with Brickleberry, you need more than a marquee name to stay on Comedy Central. But, even the Tosh-executive produced animated series did three seasons getting leftover viewership from Tosh.0. With no more Key & Peele, it could be really challenging to find lead-in audiences for another show ,albeit animated, that has Key and Peele in it, unless if you green light more cartoons to complement.
So will the animated spin-off of Key & Peele happen? It could be a while before we find out, and chances are, we probably won’t hear anything before the end of the year.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
