Review: Kirby Buckets ”The Rise and Fall of 4th Period”

Kirby and the guys get a sub teacher that’s kind of out of his mind, but one day he doesn’t show up so they decide to just do whatever the hell they want in the class without reporting to anyone else. Eli isn’t crazy about the fact that there isn’t any leadership, but fuck him. Kirby finds their teacher’s grade book and starts making alterations, which sets off Eli to go and find a new sub. When the other kids find out, they decide to work together to make a stop, but when the Principal gets rather close to finding out the rest of the fourth period class decides to make a change and put Fish in charge instead of Kirby.

Unfortunately, Fish could fuck up a cup of coffee, and the entire class is in complete disarray. As a result, Fish and Kirby end up taking part in a medieval joust that sees the two fall on the floor. Mitchell comes by and tells us that the teacher had been living in the bathroom, and after much thought, the kids decide that rules are a good thing and cover for the guy so as to get back to work.

Meanwhile, Belinda and Dawn are annoyed that hair dryers are now banned in schools. In protest, the duo opt to go ‘hygiene-free’ until school policies are changed. Problem is, the girls start to stink…bad. None of the other kids want to join in on the cause, so the two decide to go after the Principal. They eventually figure out that Mitchell had been using his own hair dryer in the bathroom, so he strikes a deal to let Belinda and Dawn continue to use their hair dryers.

Our Take

I missed the hell out of Kirby Buckets, so I’m glad to see it’s back. Quite a few funny moments in this episode, so let’s get down to it…for starters I think the producers have started to soul search a bit back to when the show first started and as such concocted a rather strong episode. For starters, Richard Moll looks good! Haven’t seen him in a while, hope he’s doing well.

For half of the episode, Jacob Bertrand (Kirby) has to put this one on his back. Reason being is because Cade Sutton only got one word in his script and it was ‘structure’ and we all know how I feel about Mekai Curtis. Mitchell is fast-growing as my second favorite character after Kirby just simply because of the constant ‘hair in the wind’ scenes. Every time he does one, I can’t help but laugh my ass off.

Dawn and Belinda’s contributions this week were contrite, but valued, and again Mitchell was seen a lot so that did a lot for me. I would have actually liked to have seen a bit more of this angle, but I guess 22 minutes only gets you so far, right?
