Comics Review: Poet Anderson: The Dream Walker #2

Spoilers Below

In this month’s issue, we continue to flesh out our characters and learn more about being a dream walker versus a night stalker and how opposite ends of that can inhabit itself. As a matter of fact, fans of The Matrix trilogy may start spotting some subtle odes to the popular movie franchise, as we take part in Alan’s journey of being ‘the one’ or in this case ‘Poet’, a being that can move through the waking and dream worlds. REM aka the leader of the Nightstalkers, has no problems hitting below the belt to try and make the destruction of the waking world a real thing as he infects Alan’s mother, whom we learn was also a dream walker at one point. Alan’s mom ends up going to the waking world, and does something almost unforgivable that pretty much puts Alan in the driver’s seat for revenge.

Our Take

I was a little worried that #2 was going to be filler, but that ended up being not the case. I loved the opening bit about the different civilizations’ take on dream walkers. You can’ t help but be enamored when it comes to the fight scenes, and the backgrounds are still just breath-taking, especially whenever these artists do something that is dark, repressive, something to that measure. I kinda want to learn more about REM and what exactly he and his faction does to set someone like Alan’s mom off to do what she did. But, that’s the fantastic thing about sci-fi…really, really good sci-fi leaves you with questions that you hope to get answered.
