BOX OFFICE UPDATE 6/29: Ted 2 Opening not great

Ted 2

We had an inkling that Ted 2’s box office could be a let down, whether it’d be from market exhaustion. I’ve been reading that some people are a bit bored from Seth MacFarlane offerings given that three of the last four years at the movies have featured a Seth MacFarlane-starring effort and the one year he didn’t have a movie (unless if you count Movie 43) was during the 2013 Academy Awards of which he got a BUNCH of press for.

Other contributing factors? People are tired of Mark Wahlberg whom is not only in all of the movies but also in Wahlburgers on A&E and we had mentioned that Tom Brady being in a movie nowadays could hurt as well. There’s also a report from Deadline that the audience CinemaScore grade was at a B+.

As of this writing, Ted 2 opened with a worldwide gross of about $54 million against a budget of $85 million which means the movie should make its production and marketing budgets back, however don’t expect to hit anywhere near the original Ted in terms of monetary gain.

More competition is on the way as well. Terminator: Genisys opens soon and other animated endeavors are already getting better press than Ted 2 such as Inside Out and Minions. You can check out our review for Ted 2 here.
