Shorts Review: Executioner and Friend Episodes 1 and 2
Death metal has certainly found its influence all over cartoons. Prison Pit, Metalocalypse, Mr. Pickles and others are just a few examples of cartoons that have taken the ‘death’ art form to heights that are almost bringing us a whole new genre very similar to the way Extreme Metal was born out of Heavy Metal. That continues with Executioner and Friend.
Executioner and Friend is almost one-part workplace comedy and one-part buddy comedy, in that it follows an Executioner that really just goes to work in executing and more or less harvesting their organs, but is joined by a walking talking blob named Friend. As of now, it looks like we are at the tip of the ice berg in terms of what to expect in the series, but already I’m digging it. The show is violent, the dialogue is crass and unexpected, and the character designs are very, very good.
The plot doesn’t give you a TON to write home about. So far, we’ve only seen our introduction to Friend and Executioner losing his hook only to find it in some dude’s nose. That said, the show is very funny and it continues the trend the aforementioned series hold the torches for and I’m looking forward to more.
Watch the latest episode of Executioner and Friend.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
