Review: The Stanley Dynamic “The Stanley Sick Day”
The Stanley Dynamic has had an interesting run so far. Animating a character into a live action show can be a tricky thing to do. Sometimes it’s difficult to believe that the character is really interacting with the actors. Other times it can be difficult to believe the character is interacting with the world around them. The Stanley Dynamic has done these things pretty well so far. Luke, our animated character, has been done pretty well so far. Last night’s new episode found him in a situation that many consider a little more than tricky…
In “The Stanley Sick Day” Mom agrees to manage The Brock while Pam is away, but when Mom comes down with food poisoning, it’s up to Larry and Luke to pick up the slack in her absence.
The biggest strength of the show is giving us dynamic and fun characters. They, themselves are interesting to watch because of the charisma they bring. Sometimes I feel like there is too much going on around them though. Things got a little hectic in the middle of last night’s episode and this carried to the end. There were a lot of spinning plates, figuratively speaking, and the show did an excellent job handling them, but I can’t help but feel like the congestion of events took away from the character interaction and comedy. One could find themselves wrapped up in what’s happening, it can be easy to miss a joke. On the other hand it works excellently because keeping in mind the younger target audience, sometimes throwing as much out there as possible can keep audiences with shorter attention spans entertained.
All of the performances were good. Two cast members who stood out for me in this week’s episode celebrated birthdays this week! Chelsea Clark had a considerably bigger role in this episode than she has had before, I’d even go as far as to call her one of the leads this week. I think she handled herself very well in an episode with so much going on. Michael Barbuto who plays the dad was also very funny this week. He is probably my favorite character on the show because he steals every scene he is in. So a big happy birthday goes out to them, they genuinely did excellent work this week.
Our animated character, Luke, was put into some funny situations this week. One of which was teaching a yoga class. Despite it adding to the chaos of the overall story, it alone was entertaining to watch. Luke is capable of stretching his limbs like Mr.Fantastic from the Fantastic Four, so seeing him try and teach a class to do moves that are impossible for them is pretty funny. The situation that followed Luke after teaching the class didn’t make a lot of sense to me. I don’t understand it’s impact on the episode. It just added another layer to an episode that could have used less layers.
Overall, this was a fun episode. A little chaotic for my sensibilities, but if you like seeing funny characters scramble in chaotic situations, I can recommend last night’s episode to you. There were a few really funny moments. I just found it a bit bloated, I think this episode could have thrived with a bit less than what it gave us. Ultimately, it was a fun watch though.
How did you like “The Stanley Sick Day”? Enjoy it? Not so much? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
