Review: The Rolling Girls “Rose of Passion”

TRG ep 11

The Rolling Girls’s “Rose of Passion” did exactly what it was supposed to do. “Rose of Passion” brought the series into the finale next week. Unfortunately, what we have is a bunch of plots that needed to come to a close before the finale handles the big bad of Shima in her Chivalry Bot. The rough push to close all of these plots meant a lot of things were essentially left on the floor. This license, that was supposed be a family heirloom, was treated as nothing because Shima wanted a chip / key that was in it.

I didn’t really care about Yukina and the others in the cells. These three being in the cells seemed to be just a convenient way to get Yukina into the arena for the final battle with Shima. On top of that, she has done quite literally nothing since the group split to the winds. At least Chiyaya was able to help Ai get to the battle with Momo and Ura. They just kinda dropped the hook of why Masami and Kaguya had to get there as well. “Rose of Passion” should be named “Rose of Dropped Plot Points.”

There was no structure between the two halves of “Rose of Passion.” It seemed like everything was just mashed together so that we can get to the finale. There was a lot of missed opportunities that could have come to fruition if there were maybe two episodes extra. Unfortunately, that’s not the  case. Oh, and the two certified badasses from the beginning, Masami and Kuniko, are now completely useless, because they have no stones, and their wrist power ups are broke. So, that leaves Ai, Nozomi, Chiyaya, and Yukina to somehow take down the Chivalry Bot.

There was not a lot to like with “Rose of Passion,” and it is very obvious here. I was hoping to have at least a cohesive set up, but nothing materialized. There needs to be a grand slam to knock this season out of the park, but I have a sinking feeling that the finale will make The Rolling Girls may turn into the 2007 Kansas City Royals.
