Review: Durarara!!x2 “The Day is Short, the Work is Long”

durararax2 ep 9

“The Day is Short, the Work is Long” is doing its best to sift through all of the floating stories that are floating around Ikebukuro. Unfortunately, not much has been really situated. The only thing to really happen is Celty finally got to Akane. However, Varona and Sloan are tracking her. There’s a lot of “not good” that is about to envelop Celty, Akane, Mikado, and Anri.

Speaking of Mikado, there was zero resolution on whether he will become the leader of the Blue Squares, mainly because Toramaru interrupted the supposed kidnapping. That’s what got Celty to Akane, by way of Anri. However, there was nothing going on with Varona and Sloan, and it seemed like Toramaru’s gang is just multiplying like incects. There isn’t much to say, because there isn’t much going on.

What keeps me constantly amazed, is how Celty can keep changing her bike to different things. This time, it’s a badass black horse and carriage. Shooter is really one of the most badass things I’ve seen in quite a while, and it’s a headless horse. Name me a time when a headless horse isn’t a badass motherfucker? Sleepy Hollow doesn’t count.

That said, never before have I bore witness to having so much go on in an episode of a show, yet not really have anything go on. I almost felt lost, because there was just shit swirling around, but that final drop down the drain never came. I was hoping there was going to be more resolutions go on, but I feel like it’s becoming more of a chore from week to week. Gone is that slick feel, and it’s like I am sloshing through molasses instead of just enjoying the ride. Well, at least we have next week. Maybe then we can get some sort of plot going on.
