MTV has been out of the animation game for a while, with their most recent effort being the failed attempt at revitalizing Liquid TelevisionWelp, a new pilot presentation order could change all that.

Being ordered is a new animated series being produced by, more or less, the exact same team that brought you the excellent Amazon pilot Supanatural. This one is called Fancy Bastards and it features Executive Producers Jason Micallef and Kristen Schaal alongside Underground’s Josh Turner McGuire and Trevor Engelson. Price Peterson, Ryan Sandoval and Lily Price wrote the pilot and also serve as Executive Producers.  Titmouse, Inc. is the studio.

In the half-hour animated comedy, a small town is shocked to learn its five most awkward outcasts all share the same father – a notorious ginger cad who had an indiscretion filled night during a whirlwind visit to Vegas nine years ago… and just happens to be a prince. The misfits turn into royal rockstars overnight, but soon find that the “Fancy Bastard” life is no fairytale.

The stellar cast includes Brittany Snow (“Pitch Perfect”), Sharon Osbourne, Kelly Osbourne, Natasha Leggero (“Neighbors”), Nasim Pedrad (“SNL”), John Roberts (“Bob’s Burgers”), Jameeliah Garrett (“Supanatural”) and Jessica Lowe (“Blended”).

Could this be a sign that MTV is getting back in the mood of producing animated television? MTV was at one time home to some of the best animated comedies of yesteryear including Clone High, Beavis and Butthead, and Daria, so I hope so. The network keeps changing its fucking mind whether or not it wants cartoons and Supanatural was really, really good so I think there could be magic here.
