Season Review: Lucas Bros. Moving Company Season Two

Spoilers Below

Sophomore slump this ain’t Lucas Bros. Moving Company was just as potent as season one and it really doesn’t matter what network this show is on.

Season two did a couple of things that helped keep it on the right track. For starters, we’ve delved deeper into the 90s pop culture ideas that this show is known for but have made them even GRANDER. Like, Family Guy does cutaway gags that are 80s related, but very seldom does the show stray that much into the crazy to delve deeper. Regular Show is probably the better comparison, a seemingly regular episode twists out of control and lands somewhere awesome.

The other thing to consider is that unlike Regular Show where standard tropes show up all the time i.e. contests, quests to get real food, etc…The Lucas Bros, even when they write episodes that have the same aforementioned tropes, they are arranged differently. For example, in the ”Lucas Burgers” episode, we had seen many and I mean many animated TV shows an episode centered around a food truck. Bob’s Burgers, Regular Show, The Simpsons…you name it and you can probably find a show that has done a fair share of food truck episodes. What I love about Lucas Bros. Moving Company is that Kenny and Keef don’t start a food business to make a career, rather they take advantage of a shitty situation presented to them by a boot on their van and needing a way to pay it off. For other shows, it’s about coming up with an idea to get through an episode, for this one it’s about survival in Brooklyn.

The Lucas Bros. Moving Company looks as though they haven’t even scratched the surface, and moreover has proven to be the anchor that FXX and Animation Domination can rely on moving forward.
