Review: Yona of the Dawn “Pretend-War”
There are so many rules to a mock battle. Plates, nobles, kings, and commoners, and they all have rules. Unfortunately, the rules were glossed over, yet the writers expect us to understand and remember them. That didn’t really happen so much. However, Geun-tea is still starting to unravel something about Su-won, because Su-won is starting to show prowess as both a tactician and a martial artists. Geun-tea got played by Su-won, and he couldn’t feel any worse.
Part of me wants to believe this is a farce, because there is too much to say that Su-won isn’t something evil. I mean, he did kill the prior king. But Su-won always wants to play on the side of good, even though it doesn’t exactly work to his benefit. All of this was to make sure Geun-tea knows his self value, as well as the value of his entire clan. From the looks of it, Geun-tea was bought, because his clan is finding a new found prosperity.
“Pretend-War” was carried by undoubtedly the best looking fighting so far. Yona of the Dawn is heavily reliant on the action, but it’s also the plot. This mock battle took up most of “Pretend-War,” so the end of the episode kind of had to rush any plot that had to be conveyed to push Yona along. That includes all of the benefits that came to Geun-tea’s people, and the subtle hint of an oncoming war.
It may have been small, but that hooked me to see what’s coming forward. I have been having trouble finding things to latch on to while watching Yona of the Dawn. I think the characters are a bit flat, the story does nothing new, and I have no vested interest in Yona, and the only interesting character I can find is playing stupid. I’m sorry to all of the fans of this show, but if there has to be something like a war to stoke interest in your characters, it’s a sign the writers are fishing for ideas. “Pretend-War” was the first episode to show any sort of conflict, and there hasn’t been a peep of Yona and her gang. This show is borderline bi-polar, and somewhat confusing.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
