Review: Adventure Time “Friends Forever”

Adventure_Time_Season_6_Episode_94B-Still

Man, in the couple of months since the last Adventure Time episode, I felt myself slowly turning into something like a coke addict. Don’t worry, I haven’t developed a crippling coke addiction like some exes in my life. I have just been waiting anxiously for new Adventure Time! This week, we get our first new episode in about two months in “Friends Forever.” However, we have a slight problem.

“Friends Forever” was a weak story. It was all Ice King using Ancient Sleeping Magi of Life Giving for his life giving powers on all of Ice King’s stuff. That worked well, if you want to pay for voice actors to voice a bunch of one-off characters. All of Ice King’s furniture (that wasn’t made of ice) was given life, and they almost forced Ice King from his own house. Every piece of animated furniture was ragging on Simon for his problems, especially hitting hard with Simon’s dependency on his crown. I was sold on this being an episode lost to its own lack of canonical content, but then the dresser started talking about the crown, and they all started calling him Simon. So, for a brief moment, It was like the comeback episode would deliver. Again, it fell short.

It was like “Friends Forever” wanted to go somewhere deep with this. I was hoping Betty would come in, and link everything together. However, I can’t help that this was a filler. I feel even more let down when you take into account that Adventure Time has been dark for two months, only coming back last night. No Finn, no Jake,  no Princess Bubblegum, and no Ooo really make this a lackluster episode. Maybe the feel of I missed for the last two months come back in next week’s “Jermaine.”
