Comic Review: Bravest Warriors #31
The last time we saw our Bravest Warriors, they were running a summer camp. But not just any summer camp. The camp they went to as children. This is also where they were when their parents disappeared into the see-through zone. Despite that, most of the Warriors still love the camp and are determined to make sure the kids have fun.
Of course, having fun means games! The main story in this issue opens with the Warriors getting their campers ready to play Capture The Flag. The cabins are separated into two teams who must try to steal the other team’s flag. It is a pretty basic game. Except that the kids can still be maimed. All in the name of fun, right?
As the kids play, some of them are injured or their ribbons are stoled (a la flag football) and, therefore, they are “out.” Arthen, the kid who was abandoned by his father in the previous issue, is out via stolen ribbons and storms off into the woods to talk to Bugcat, Catbug’s evil brother. Arthen tells Bugcat that he has, indeed, been transferred to Catbug’s cabin but the little guy is always with Plum. As a result, Bugcat gives Arthen an amulet that will summon a beast that will devour the person who touched the stone. Arthen is supposed to get Plum to touch the stone.
However, he comes across Chris on his way back into camp. Chris tries his best to be friends with Arthen, which only annoys the kid more. Arthen gets so annoyed that he talks Chris into touching the stone, summoning Akrothile, Pursuer of Vengeance. The kid freaks out and runs away with the amulet. He bumps into Danny, who is still upset about being at camp. Danny just can’t let go of the past. The two begin to bond when Danny hears Beth calling him. All of the other Warriors are firmly in the grip of the huge Akrothile. While Danny and Plum try to free their friends, Catbug notices Bugcat nearby.
Which is where they stop the story, of course.
The second story is a continuation of “They Come From The Planet of Fandom!” Danny is going through his morning routine on the uncharted planet from the previous issue. He sees Chris and Catbug in a hot tub, Beth getting pampered, and Wallow still chowing down. All of this seems very familiar but he just shrugs it off.
As the gang begins to say goodbye to the King, he tries to convince them to stay. When his words fail, he presses a button that traps them in a box. The King then reads his fanfiction to them until they are all thoroughly brainwashed.
Hood, one of the King’s people, sees the King brainwash the Warriors and objects. The King, however, brushes Hood off with the insult of not being a true fan.
When the Warriors wake up, they, once again, go through their morning routine. Danny tries to ask Hood about his deja vu feelings but Hood just runs away. Suddenly, a spaceship lands nearby. Plum and Impossibear rush out with guns ready to go. Danny tells Plum that they have only been gone for a few days but Plum reveals that the Warriors have been gone for months!
I have to admit that I wasn’t very impressed with the main story in this issue. It seemed like a lot of filler. I’m hoping that, now that Catbug knows that Bugcat is still around and the Warriors have an enemy, there will be some really good fighting in the next issue. The second story kinda felt the same. There just wasn’t anything meaty in either story. It is all a lead in to the next issue. I hate that.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
