‘Sabogal’ is animated proof that Colombia, South America is ready for its own voice

There’s not a chance in hell a series like this would air in America, which is sad to say the least. Imagine an animated drama series that focuses on historical significance just the way this new series Sabogal does in Colombia, South America.

The show follows Jamie Garzon, a journalist, comedian, and activist whom was also a famous political satirist in Colombia. Turns out, Jamie was murdered in 1999 after 10 years of rising to prominence and to this day the mystery was never solved. That’s where Sabogal picks up, as over the course of 13-episodes, this animated thriller sees Sabogal look to defend Garzon’s family of any wrong-doing. Eventually, Jamie uncovers drug traffickers, paramilitary leaders, and corrupt public officials.

In other words, imagine Colombian producers providing the animated equivalent of a Breaking Bad, and that’s a great place to start in terms of what this series could do. It’s a vertical that is largely untapped here in the States, so hopefully someone can see the popularity grow from Sabogal and do something similar here.

You can watch it 7pm on Sunday Nights in Colombia on Canal Capital or www.canalcapital.gov.co
