Review: Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors ”The Spider-Verse: Part One”

Spoilers Below

Spider-Man and Goblin get transported into the future after the latter imprisons Electro thereby using him as a constant source of energy of which to travel into alternate dimensions. We find out that Goblin is looking to collect Spidey-DNA for a very special project. First stop? Brooklyn 2099!

It isn’t long before Spider-Man runs into his 2099 counterpart, however the union isn’t exactly amicable. At first the two don’t get along, but when Goblin shows up they team up to try and stop him, but the green one ends up getting 2099’s blood before heading into another portal with Spider-Man close behind.

We end up in a world where all of the guys are girls. For example, we have female clones of Peter Parker, J. Jonah Jameson, and even Norman Osbourne. That last part is equally important as the real Goblin finds his female counterpart leaving the two to team up and go after the Spider-Girl and Spider-Man.

Eventually, Norman gets Spider-Girl’s blood, but the two Spideys team up to defeat Norma before Spider-Man heads to the portal after The Goblin.

Our Take

Let me start off by saying, the character designs for both Electro and The Goblin are the worst things I’ve ever seen. The Goblin literally looks like The Hulk but with elf ears and Electro looks completely uninspiring. That said, I had a lot of fun with the first-chapter of this four-part series. The 2099-verse was kind of a let down because unlike the second part, there was no villain from that time period and I would’ve killed to have seen Venom 2099 or even The Goblin from the 2099-comics run. The Spider-Girl verse was very well done, and I actually think Norma Osbourne’s design is closer to what I would expect Norman to be when turned into The Goblin, but alas this is not the case. However, seeing girl versions of Jamieson and Nick Fury never gets old.
