Review: Tokyo Ghoul √A “Thousand Paths”

TG ep 6

Tokyo Ghoul √A‘s “Thousand Paths” does a lot to resolve a lot of the loose threads of story that have been dangling. For starters, what the hell happened to Suzuya? That gets explained, and in somewhat gory detail. If there was one thing I wanted to know, it’s how Suzuya can go from a somewhat mild mannered kid to the complete psychopath he is currently.

if there was one Tokyo Ghoul character that realled need backstory, it’s Suzuya. I mean, I connected with him with little knowledge of him, and my fondness only grew from there. Unfortunately, that doesn’t really translate to some other characters. Let me be frank for a minute. I can give two shits less about anyone in the coffee shop. Whether it’s Roma, or Touka. Thankfully, Kaneki is still going through his changes, right?

I tried watching the bar scene with Akira, Amon, and Seido, but I lost complete interest. The interaction, not to mention Akira thinking Amon is her father, seemed very forced, especially when Seido had to bail. Does Akira hate Amon? Or was that just the booze talking? Who knows, because there was very little setup for that. Way to go writers. I had this exact expression after this whole debacle was done and over with. I was actually exhausted from trying to keep myself interested.

After that 10 minutes that I will never get back, the writers brought the episode back from the brink of an Alcoholic’s Anonymous intervention, The end of the episode wraps with CCG making a task force to take down Aogiri and the Owl. So, it looks like more fighting is on the way. That’s good, because I am not sure how much more of this forced interaction between Akira, and Amon and Seido. When they aren’t forcing interactions outside of the CCG office, I can get behind them. They were awesome in the last two episodes going toe to toe with the Aogiri. Then, we get this.

For the most part, “Thousand Paths” was an enjoyable episode. The latter half dragged hardcore, but seeing the episode pick up again was something to be happy about towards the end. Hopefully, the next episode keeps the trend going. If I have to sit through another drunken Akira scene, I’m going to blow my brains out.
