Review: Assassination Classroom “Assembly Time”

AC ep 5

Remember when I said last week that something needs to change in this show or it may get stale? Well, this week, we get a slight deviation from the system. The first half of this episode was all about how one of the different classmates, named Okuda, and how she was trying out poisons to take out Koro-Sensei. It was something really different to see, and I think I enjoyed it a bit more than the second half.

The second half wasn’t bad by any stretch of the word. It was actually really funny. E class had to get down to the main campus for a school assembly. And of course, the class was treated like a bunch of pariahs. Then shit got turned around real quick as soon as a disguised Koro-Sensei came down the mountain and gave E-Class the handouts that were conveniently missed. Then Nagisa had a total badass moment where he showed no fear in front of his former classmates from the main campus.

The best way to describe “Assembly Time” is that it’s really just two mini episodes separated by a commercial break, a la Cartoon Network’s Thursday block. The difference here is that it’s still one episode. You can think of it as either a positive or a detriment. I’m going with a positive. It shows that the writers are able to switch things up again, and show a different type of episode. I am loving how Assassination Classroom is coming along, and I really have to commend the writers and animators for doing a job well done. Well, them and Sonny Strait.

Assassination Classroom is a show that you can start watching, and it will make you get into (or back into in my case) anime. I have spent hours on Funimation’s streaming service watching shows, just because they were there. And it’s all thanks to Koro-Sensei and Assassination Classroom.
