English Dub Review: World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman “The Reincarnater”

I can hear all of my friends, circa 1999, crying out in glee.

The premise of World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman is really cool. Every person in this special school is a reincarnated spirit of a past exceptional warrior. You kind of get the same vibe from Nobunagun, but from what I can tell so far, all of these warriors are not real world people, where Nobunagun will be all real life historical figures.

I’ll be straight up honest with you on World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman. I have no Earthly clue as to why it’s rated TV-MA. The show is 23 minutes of cocktease after cocktease. I’m well past high school me, where I want to see tits and ass in my anime. But if you’re going to almost show Satsuki fully naked before putting on her gym uniform, or run out of her room with only her hair covering her ass, just give the kids what they want, and give them the money shot. With as much of an emphasis World Break has on showing Satsuki 99% naked, or Moroha’s face in Shizuno’s giant tits, you would expect someone naked too.

Now that I got the 23 minute cocktease out of the way, the plot for “The Reincarnater” was a little weird. The first 2:37 of “The Reincarnater” was a fast forward moment, where you are dropped right into a giant battle with a dragon. That’s cool and all, but what the fuck are these people doing, and what are these powers? After the flashback, we get a proper introduction to the love triangle that will probably fuel the series, with Moroha, Satsuki, and Shizuno. Most of the episode has Shizuno taking point with making out with Moroha by making out with him, or making him motorboat her tits. Satsuki has to go on counterpoint and just try to go over top. It doesn’t work very well.

Towards the end of the episode, Moroha seems to turn the corner when it comes to Satsuki, because he goes to the school bully to get him to apologize for embarrassing Satsuki earlier in the episode. I thought it was rather fast to have all three kind of get in sync, but who knows. Maybe the huge payoff will be a really bad cocktease at a threesome.  I mean, the rest of the show has been one so far.

There were quite a few moments in “The Reincarnater” where the animation just seemed sloppily done. The hands seemed to meld into one another when Moroha, Satsuki, and Shizuno were talking, with Moroha and Shizuno taking fries. All three of their hands end up going through each other. Next, when Moroha is confronting the bully, the bully’s face looks like a Picasso painting. His face is on the side of his head, where the outline of his face is still in front. It looked rather amateurish.

That said, World Break is fucking hilarious. The shitty positions that Satsuki and Shizuno put Moroha in is comical. Like back in the restaurant, Shizuno just decides to jam Moroha’s face in her tits, so Satsuki has to follow suit. Oh, and then you have when Satsuki just headbutts a concussion into Moroha’s skull, knocking him back a few feet. They both find Shizuno, who then makes out with the  “probably concussed” Moroha. Now, if the writers can corral the plot so that the show can make more sense, I will be a very happy person. World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman is a hilarious show that just seems to need time to get together. Now, who said that weekend cartoons are dead?
