Review: Kirby Buckets “Mac’s Back”
Spoilers Below
The network pulls a dick move and cancels Kirby’s favorite show. As a result, Kirby’s imagination goes awry, Fish opts a sit-out of TV, and Eli seems to vote for the new show that took Big Bald Oaf’s place. It isn’t long before the boys come across show creator Mac McAllister homeless in an alleyway with a fork stuck in his foot. This inspires Kirby to rally his friends to try and get their favorite show back on the air.
Eli and Fish decide to offer a petition to get the show back on the air, and Kirby brings Mac to school as a guest speaker. Unfortunately, the now ex-TV producer flips out and gets both him and Kirby sent to the principal’s office.
Meanwhile, Dawn puts on a crazy routine after coming in contact with spider. Obviously, this turns into an online craze ala ‘twerking’ and the rest of the school kids are ALL in it. As a result, Dawn looks to find the next craze that has nothing to do with her, but first she wants to go after Mac McAllister as his flip out sesh from earlier is slowly gaining steam.
No matter how big the latest dance craze gets, it isn’t bigger than Eli’s online following. To prove it, a chili kick-off gets organized by his followers and with it comes the promise of TV network execs stopping by for a potential apology from Mac for throwing chili at them hence causing the cancellation.
On the day of the event, Chandler Parsons shows up with his own brand of chili and Kirby brings his dad in as a stand-in for Mac. Unfortunately, the real Mac shows up and starts shit with Dad-mac. The execs and Mac are nearly out the door when Kirby gives us Option C. with him getting slaughtered with chili, hell even Chandler Parsons gets in on it! Dawn shows up to try and capitalize on getting Kirby, but she slips and gets covered in even MORE chili. Mac gets covered too, and the network gets his show back on the air.
I love me some chili, and Chandler Parsons throwing chili is kinda the best in what was another solid episode of Kirby. Granted, we seem to be getting more and more of the episodes having their third act take place in some sort of event, but this was the first episode in quite some-time where we got to see Kirby and the gang get back to the original scope of the series. We certainly need these reminders of who Kirby’s heroes are so that we are aware of why he is the way he is each and every episode. Also, give it up to show star Jacob Bertrand and whomever else was a victim of being covered in chili.
This week’s episode keeps us in check for a couple weeks until the next episode airs. Dawn’s plot kind of fell by the wayside, but overall it was great seeing Mac Back.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
