Review: Kirby Buckets ‘Kirby’s Choice’

8) Kirby Buckets

Spoilers Below

Kirby just won 2 tickets to go to a video game convention, but now he’s gotta choose between Fish or Eli on his second ticket. UHHH OHHH, SPAGHETTI-OS! Kirby imagines going to the con with both of his friends, Fish wants to pitch a game and Eli talks up his Second Life-life. Kirby wants to finish all 120 games to set a record, though neither friend seems to wanna help with this part.

Fish ends up pitching his video game to a billionaire developer, and Eli runs into his digital wife to whom he wants to break up with. Fish learns that Larry Zantron is your run of the mill scumbag copyright owner, and Eli’s ”wife” thinks that Kirby is Eli.

Kirby jumps in to moderate Larry’s panel and this guy just LOSES it. Fish and Kirby get back a video game pitch written down in a notebook and take off but in the other ‘world’, Kirby divorces this crazy bitch, Nancy. Eli comes clean about who Eli really is and Fish gives his pitch back.

Meanwhile, Dawn gets a gig working at the convention but she has a dickhead for a boss who makes her dress up as an ‘Ax-Girl’. All this for a hat? Unfortunately, she gets fired for beating up kids with her ax.

Back in the real world, Kirby gives his tickets away to both Eli and Fish and Kirby couldn’t be happier.

I missed this show…and you should be watching it. We’ve already seen a few instances where Kirby has had to choose between friends, but the way this episode was directed makes it all its own. I really enjoyed the constant split-screen, because Kirby is showing his chops as a steady actor. Oliva Stucky as ‘Dawn’ had a very, funny thing going even if it was a tad short and certainly hearkened back to other episodes of the show’s ilk.The scene where Dawn’s got the whole glow in the background was really well done, and it just goes to show this series is in another league whence compared to other Disney XD live-action shows. To be fair…it’s not even close.

I’ve never known that Fish wanted to pitch games. Maybe it’s about time that he and Kirby start co-producing with Eli as their model? In terms of animated characters, only a couple make it in this week, but the season is still young. That said, I hope to see cartoons play a bigger role in Kirby’s life moving forward.
