Review: Adventure Time “The Mountain”

Adventure Time took a trip to Weird Town this week.

So, I just got done with this week’s episode of Adventure Time, entitled “The Mountain.” The Game of Thrones fan in me was hoping for a cameo by Hafthor Bjornsson, but we all can’t get what we want. I am not sure what just happened during “The Mountain.” Let’s take a bit of a closer look at the goings on in tonight’s episode.

Right out of the gate, if you’ve been following Adventure Time for a while, you know that any episode that has Lemongrab, things are going to get a little out of hand. This time, after having his lemon slaves crowd surf himself into his room, Lemongrab goes on a journey to decypher a cave prophecy-looking drawing on his ceiling. Lemongrab decides to go figure it out in The Mountain of Matthew. This, of course, draws the ire of Finn and Jake.

After an out of place cameo from Flame Princess, Finn goes inside the mountain to follow Lemongrab, and that is where things go off the deep end. Both Finn and Lemongrab face a choice to take one of three paths to find Matthew. From this point forward, things make no sense at all. I know they have to make a choice of what they wanted, but they both end up in a position that is almost exactly the same. This is some sort of existensial crisis type of thing that Lemongrab went through, yet Finn just went with the flow. Now, let me pose a question to you. When Lemongrab committed harakiri, shouldn’t he have been a puddle of lemon juice in front of Matthew?

Speaking of which, Matthew seems like some sort of God type of character, or an ooze that just absorbs everything. Some can argue the same point. One thing that “The Mountain” did solidify, was that Lemongrab is still slightly homicidal. He kills Matthew, and the gatekeeper of the mountain, and wants to take on the army of (what looks like) misformed Lemons. Yeah, it’s as weird as it sounds.

This is the first time in a long while, that I’ve watched an episode of Adventure Time, and I’ve felt like that I have no opinion either way. I am just so stunned at how out there the story is. Like I’ve said last week, the stories have a way of looping back to earlier episodes, so I almost know that this will get revisited at some point or another. When things get explained, I’ll revisit this review. However, as of now, this episode made very little sense at all.
