Bubble SG Review: Heartland Hubby ‘Singapore Hero / Neighbourhood’

Spoilers Below

Anyone ever fancied becoming a superhero? In this episode, Ah Gong (grandpa in Mandarin) rises up and becomes the hero of Singapore, albeit accidentally!

What started out as a clumsy trip over an inconsiderate man’s leg turns into a thorough knockout of said man. And a single upload of the incident onto the trusty Internet makes Ah Gong out into the vigilante we all know he’s really not. Winnie and Robbie decides to transform him into a real hero, dressed in a cheesy outfit in the national colours. She manages to change his walking stick into a secret weapon, and fixes his inhaler to spray sleeping gas. Winnie must really be a genius to do all that so quickly, huh? Maybe she should have been the hero instead! Clumsy Ah Gong, of course, can’t be trusted with the weapons. But he still manages to wing it, with hilariously varying degrees of success!

Incidentally, George the ‘ang mo’ (caucasian) gets to be a hero too! But he unintentionally causes the close friendship between Encik and Siva to split up when he volunteers to be part of the Neighbourhood Watch. And all this because of a sprained ankle, whoops! But another sprained ankle manages to bring them back together, bubbling bromance and all.

Speaking of relationships breaking apart, even the stray cats Bobo and Chacha have some trouble in their friendship department. But as always, the show ends on a happy note!

This episode was funny. No, I wasn’t rolling on my sofa laughing loudly in tears, but there were a couple of chuckle-inducing moments. I think Heartland Hubby can be counted on for a relaxing time on your couch that will put a smile on your face. But the show being strongly Singaporean, that’s assuming you can get the local jokes and understand some Singlish lar!
