Bubble SG Review: Heartland Hubby ”Alien Integration / Legend of QiQi”
Spoilers Below
Hellooo aliens!
Aliens literally, as well as aliens alluding to foreigners in Singapore, because what would a local show be without including the foreign talents who so dominate Singapore’s scene right?
Two weird octopi-looking aliens are zapped to look like humans, then beamed down to Earth as scouts. They meet Xiao Zhong (a foreign talent) and Encik who try to ‘integrate them into society’ by bringing them to the playground (erm, why?), and by feeding them local food (smart!). The aliens are successfully integrated into Singapore’s society after mouthfuls and mouthfuls of chicken rice, roti prata and durian, and there’s no invasion on Earth anymore. Because of the delicious food, yes.
Meanwhile, Ah Gong transforms into AG, and starts acting like a young rapper-wannabe with all his random “Yo, yo, yos”. His family is suspicious of Qi Qi, his new girlfriend from mainland China. Being half his age, they suspect her of being after his money. Turns out she’s even richer than him, even after including all his CPF (the mandatory Central Provident Fund which is a social security savings plan meant for retirement and healthcare)! Whoops! Shows that you shouldn’t judge people too quickly huh.
Wait, even the stray cats have foreign girlfriends? One’s from Taiwan and she looks creepily like a moving Fortune Cat. The other is a sultry cat from China. Guess who the real golddigger, or should I say food digger, turns out to be in the end!
This episode was focused on foreign talents in Singapore, but showing them not just as two-dimensional people, but also as humans with different personalities. And not to forget, there were plenty of laughs, the type that I’ve come to count on when watching Heartland Hubby with a bag of chips in my hand. And a big thumbs up to the writers who managed to make a sensitive topic stay light and funny!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
