Blu-Ray Review: Red vs. Blue Season 12
I really wanted to title this “Why haven’t I bought seasons 5 through 11 of RvB?” But apparently, formatting is a thing.
When Red vs. Blue first came out, I had the first four seasons, and it was fucking fantastic. I don’t know why, but I kind of teetered off with the purchases, and just watched them online. However, season 11’s package just reaffirmed that I really needed to buy the other seasons. Now, how did season 12 fare?
The real meat and potatoes, of course, is the season itself. Online, they look good. However, putting this disc in your blu-ray player absolutely shits all over the internet viewing. Everything looks crisp, like you could be watching this on an X-Box. The graphics are smooth, and the animated sequences smash all over what seasons past have done. (In case you’re wondering what I gave last season, you can read the season review here.) Even the menu is clean and crisp.
The three behind the scenes featurettes, “Return to Chorus,” “The Production Process,” and “New Characters” were the most insightful, even though they seem to be taken from a different show, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it were the podcast. Anyway, there was a lot of praise for Miles Luna on how he changed RvB, and for the better. For instance, there was a segment on how Miles took the series from introducing a new character a season to introducing a new character “every minute.” He was able to take the show back to its roots, yet bring it forward.
The rest of the special features were a little bland, except for the deleted scenes and the outtakes. These deleted scenes were so hilarious, I almost cried. The first deleted scene was Team Rebel right at the compound’s door, talking about the dead hitchhiking Santa. The second one, however, should have been in the episode. The second one was longer, and had more to it. Sarge took over interrogating instead of Dr. Gray, and got the Reds to break the sanity of the hostage so he would talk. I get why it was cut for Dr. Gray, but I think it was a better scene. The outtakes were about a collective four minutes of gags and fuck ups, and were there for a quick laugh.
Finally, there were the PSA’s that aired in place of episodes in some weeks just to round out the season.
All in all, this Blu-Ray has a lot of shit going on for $15. Even if you’re a mild fan of the series, go buy this Blu-Ray. You get a lot of bang for the $15, and the features are worth it.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
