Review: Wild Grinders “Wild Grinders Style”
Lil Rob invents his own version of the Doogie.
I’ve noticed something this week about Wild Grinders. The show uses viral videos as a crutch to make quite a few episodes. The sad part is that whenever they do a video episode, it’s where the episode actually isn’t terrible. But that makes the writing so one sided. At least “Wild Grinders Style” seems like it could actually make sense.
The shocking thing about “Wild Grinders Style” is that this episode was…enjoyable. Be shocked, kids! I may actually learn the Tippy Tac Tac. It’s an infectious dance! Don’t judge me, you probably danced the Macarena. Anyway, Lil Rob is trying to get to the Skate-a-thon Con, and only the people with the top viewed videos will make it to the convention. He makes up a stupid dance, which Goggles records and sends to the internet. Lil Rob does what Kim Kardashian couldn’t, and he breaks the internet. Well, he gets a million views, which is nowhere near PSY. But hey, we can roll with it. After his new rep pushes Tippy Tac Tac all over the world, Rob finally gets invited to Skate-a-Thon Con. When Rob realizes he’s there just to be the half time entertainment, Rob quits the dance, and skates.
The thing you may miss here is how ridiculous the life of a viral video really is. The only way to get people to care about your video is if you’re doing something really dumb. I can dig it, because I spend a lot of time on YouTube watching shitty videos of people doing stupid shit. So, this falls in line with a lot of the viral videos you see, including PSY’s Gangnam Style. The video was as retarded as the song, yet 2 BILLION views later and the video broke the YouTube counter.
What we have here is a solid episode of Wild Grinders. “Wild Grinders Style” was a solid episode that was carried by a repetitive theme. I see this trend continuing, because the writers seem to be going with one good theme, and they’re just running with it. Again, it’s a repetitive theme, but the writing was there, and it was done well. What was really surprising was how mediocre Rob Dyrdek was this week. He seemed to push that overly cheerful tone Lil Rob has, but when he plays Lil Rob normally, he does a mediocre job this week. That’s leaps and bounds above where he has been in any other episode thus far. Unfortunately, Wild Grinders is one of those shows that I cannot have hope for from week to week just due to track record.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
