‘Fire and Ice’ to be adapted into a live-action feature film by Sony
For those that say the 80s were a sore time for adult animation, I give you Ralph Bakshi whom was largely responsible for keeping it alive even if a lot of his movies never gained mainstream status the same way the shitty Disney movies did. I actually equate his releases of American Pop, Hey Good Lookin’, and Fire and Ice to the unholy Slayer trilogy of the 80s, in that both were hugely influential for two art forms that were largely underground at the time, but would pave the way for others to do the same today and keep the spirit of those earlier works alive.
Sony has decided to take the animated film, and turn it into a live-action one with Robert Rodriguez attached to direct in memory of his friend and Fire and Ice animator Frank Frazetta. How you honor a legendary animator by turning one of his more popular works into a live-action effort is beyond me, but apparently this thing’s going to be some sort of franchise that Sony hopes is better than their shitty Spider-Man one.
Rodriguez is also looking to adapt Heavy Metal, but so far I haven’t seen anything come from that effort, so who knows? Maybe this will be different. Deadline does a more in depth story and you can read about it here. But, I really think this should have stayed an animated fare and instead get a reboot.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
