Rooster Teeth gets bought…what’s next?

Youtube media conglomerate Fullscreen has bought RoosterTeeth.com for an undisclosed sum. That’s right, the producers of such animated fare as Red vs Blue and RwBy has looked outside of Youtube for a rather smart acquisition. However, is this good news for fans?

For those that don’t know, Fullscreen is a multi-media company that primarily focuses on Youtube properties such as JASH, WIGS, and others and has had strategic partnerships with NBCUniversal and FOX. Peter Chernin was an early investor in the company, and yes this is the same Peter Chernin that at one point was a big wig at 20th Century FOX where he helped such top-flight films like Avatar and Titanic get funding thereby ruining any chance of James Cameron from making any more Aliens or Terminator movies.

The Fullscreen move is a strategic one that will see the company look to leverage a lot of Rooster Teeth’s existing power when it comes to subscribers, hosting live events, and yes merchandise. The downside here is that Fullscreen COULD leverage its Youtube power and perhaps convince Rooster Teeth to produce more content that goes straight to Youtube rather then on RoosterTeeth.com.

It will be interesting to see where this partnership will lead, as it will almost certainly have SOME sort of repercussion so on some of Rooster Teeth’s more popular brands.
