Review: Brickleberry ‘Steve the Fearless Pilot’

Spoilers Below

Steve gets hypnotized so that he can be a pilot, but actually ends up a pirate. His first act of bravery is saving Ethel from having to go to an event with Woody as his date. As a result, Woody sets out to find the guy that turned Steve into a pirate and force him to turn Steve back.Woody and Ethel head to the event with extra security looking to protect the two from Steve’s piracy. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work and Steve shows up, saves Ethel, and takes off. After getting some recruits, Steve manages to find a cannon, a ship, and enough gusto to rob a yacht. To fight back, Woody grabs himself a Chinese army and decides to declare war against Steve and his pirates. To defeat his nemesis, Woody traps Steve and hangs him upside down in Ethel’s cabin.

Steve snaps out of being a pirate, but Woody throws him in jail anyway. Eventually, a giant sea monster attacks Woody and his pals, so they turn to Steve for help. As a result, Steve the Pilot is born and he dives inside of the monster and readies for war with his ship mates. The guys end up killing the monster and saving Ethel, but we come to learn that Steve is still kind of a pussy.

Connie and Denzel end up on a deserted island filled with lesbians that worship Connie for her ‘beauty’. Eventually, the tribe give Connie the power to take one of them as a sex slave, but she only gets to pick one. Denzel suspects something might be weird going on, so he tries to escape. Turns out, Connie was on a reality show this whole time and the producers captured Denzel so he wouldn’t get out. This causes Connie to flip out and turn the body parts of everyone on that island into a boat that traverses them back to Brickleberry.

This week we get a funny episode of Brickleberry, but there was a LOT borrowed here. For starters, Family Guy did a pirate AND sea monkey thing already. The better plot was probably the island deal, but the end scene has been done a bunch of times before on The Simpsons and a few other animated ilk. One could argue that Steve’s pirate was a bit more intense than Peter Griffin’s take, but I think Peter’s was far funnier. I did find it hilarious that Woody had a sex slave, and Connie tearing people apart was great, but with not enough originality, I think you guys can skip this one.
