Killogy, Chew, and now Godkiller are just the latest examples of animated films inspired by indie comics that are being produced for all of us to go silly over…and it’s working!

According to Deadline.com, the post-apocalyptic comic series from Black Mask Studios, and it’s heading towards screen as a new trilogy of animated features that will be independently financed and produced by Black Mask and transmedia.co.

For those that don’t know, Godkiller is a comics series that follows a slave and an orphan through a barren wasteland. The comics were created by Matt Pizzolo,  Anna Muckcracker Wieszczyk and Ben Templesmith, but it will be Pizzolo who takes the reigns as director of the film adaptation.

You may remember that in 2010, Pizzolo put out Godkiller: Walk Among Us featuring the voices of Lance Henriksen(!!!!!!!), AFI’s Davey Havok, Danielle Harris, Bill Moseley, and Lydia Lunch. Welp, this release will be remastered using greenscreen, rotoscope technology, and CG and will drop sometime in 2015. Afterwards, there will be the sequels Godkiller: Tomorrow’s Ashes in 2016 and Godkiller: The Trouble You Took From Her Eyes in 2017, using different animation styles to signify the story’s journey through different dimensions. Brett Gurewitz, Steve Niles, and Brian Giberson are producing the films which will feature some new and returning voice cast.

Animated film geared towards an older audience is gaining momentum, and it looks like the niche is going to explode sooner rather than later. This is all good news of course, and I’m looking forward to seeing what Godkiller will bring to the table.
