American Dad! gets picked up for a 12th Season; gives hope for other franchises

American Dad got picked up for a 22-episode 12th season on TBS. According to Deadline, the series has averaged about 3 million viewers a week, which is about 3 million more viewers a week than what FOX’s American Dad replacement aka Mulaney got in its first season. However, this pickup is very important and allow me to explain why.

Last week, we noted that Futurama absolutely proved its worth for additional season with its successful cross-over of The Simpsons, and I think TBS is proof that if you take a cancelled show with a huge enough fan base, you can make it a ratings winner. That’s THREE million viewers a week on TBS, but the network earned it by actually showing love for the Seth MacFarlane franchise that often got over-shadowed by Family Guy on Sunday Nights, despite the fact that it’s arguably the better series.

With that in mind, TBS would be foolish not to take a look at Futurama, and the producers of Futurama should shop this series HARD to TBS, because who wouldn’t want some Futurama to come on after American Dad! ?
