Review: Regular Show ‘Maxin and Relaxin’

Mordecai is the master of making mix tapes and to prove it CJ wants to go with him to his parents’ house to find some of his old mixes. This means that CJ is going to meet Mordecai’s mom which terrifies the blue jay because she always embarrasses him in front of girls. To try and get Mordecai’s mom to relax, he calls his dad Will to try and reason, but he’s no help. Mom comes home and tells the kids to stay and eat dinner, but not before she makes a dessert that is sure to embarrass Mordy in front of his girlfriend! While in the middle of the meal, Mordecai heads downstairs to get his mix tape and an old home movie, but when he tries to destroy the latter the characters from the tape come to life and capture Mordecai. The characters try to convince Mordecai to be nice to his mom and as such he decides to watch the home movie with CJ and his family.

I’m still not the biggest fan of CJ despite the fan that I’m a big Linda Cardellini, but she met Mordy’s mom so I guess she’s staying for a while. Furthermore, I loved the new characters and hearing Katey Sagal back behind a mic again for the first time since Futurama’s end made my heart fill with joy. Unfortunately, the climax seemed like it was going to be more of a struggle than what we really got. And let’s not forget my major gripe CJ, the fact that she seems TO perfect for Mordecai. Like, Margaret had flaws. She wasn’t rich, she seemed like she had to stay busy and work hard…with CJ there’s no accountability. She’s just there. Hopefully this character can come alive ala Thomas in Season Four.
