Review: Brickleberry ‘Baby Daddy’

Spoilers Below

Steve fucked Ethel and everyone in town knows, and now the sonovabitch wants to marry the blonde bimbo. Eventually we find out that Ethel is pregnant with Steve’s baby, but she gets an abortion. Problem is, Steve really wants to have a kid so he asks the doc to surgically implant Ethel’s aborted fetus inside of his stomach.

Steve goes through all of the paces of being a pregnant dude. His belly is getting huge, and he even throws a baby shower. This infuriates Ethel, but when she tries to get the other rangers to back her up she gets ditched. To try and get Steve out of his ridiculous journey, Ethel starts to show off what it’s like being a mom. Turns out, Steve is a pretty damn good parent! However, this doesn’t mean Steve is getting off easy, and as such Ethel does all she can to cause Steve to lose the baby. But, we come to learn this baby belongs to her old boyfriend, Rich. Apparently, Steve passed out before he banged out Ethel so Rich showed up and finished the act. Now that Rich is back in the picture, Ethel wants to keep her baby that’s inside of Steve, but the Ranger of the Month doesn’t want the kid anymore because it’s not even his. Steve goes into labor, and we find out that the embryo was actually a tumor so Rich takes off.

Meanwhile, Woody comes to grips that he’s an alcoholic and it costs him getting pulled over and hauled into jail. This gets the park ranger a run in customer service as a janitor, but when Woody tries to get some help he gets taken away and is committed. Soon, Denzel and Connie show up to bust him out, but they also get committed. Unfortunately, the two seem to like living here, but Woody convinces them to escape anyway. The big focal point to Woody’s sentence is admitting that Malloy isn’t a talking bear, but of course we know otherwise. White back at the house, Malloy runs out of food and the power gets shut off so bear decides to go to the mental asylum and spring Woody, Denzel, and Connie for good.

Brickleberry has officially premiered the most over-the-top episode of its entire run. The dialogue felt more like the jokes that I’m used to getting from Damn Show’s Yucko the Clown character in that celebrities got beat up more, Stern-influenced sex jokes dotted throughout, and you just wanted to see what was going to be said next. This was as collaborative effort as there has been on Brickleberry in quite some time, and every one of the cast was hysterical. This was probably the busiest episode that Natasha Leggero’s ‘Ethel’ has ever had, and abortion jokes are always funny. I didn’t quite buy the fact that Steve has been trying to get with Ethel for so long because he really hasn’t made any overtures towards her since early season one. Fortunately, this doesn’t do much to dissuade how hysterical this week’s episode was. There were just so many laughs to be had, that my stomach started to hurt.
