‘Simpsons’ Producer Shares Thomas Pynchon’s Hand-Written Script Annotations

Simpsons and literary fans alike applauded the surprising guest-voice stints of reclusive author Thomas Pynchon in Season 15’s “Diatribe of a Mad Housewife” and Season 16’s “All’s Fair in Oven War.”

Not only did his character (himself) hilariously wear a paper bag over his head and poke fun at his secretive lifestyle, but he rattled off a few very funny puns and remarks as well.

It now turns out that some of those jokes were actually written by Pynchon himself. Simpsons executive producer Matt Selman recently shared the author’s marked-up script, which reveals his personal modifications.

In addition to spoofing a couple of his novel’s titles (“The Frying of Latke 49” and “V.-Licious”) you’ll also notice that Pynchon refused to call Homer a “fat ass,” actually commenting in the margins, “Sorry, guys. Homer is my role model and I can’t speak ill of him.”

Classy.
