Bubbleblabber vs Carl’s Stone Cold Pick of the NFL Week 1: Vikings vs Rams

Smell that? Yep, it’s football season! Time to by copious amounts of food and booze so that we can do 12 hours of football watching with ZERO shame, only to go into work the next day and talk about it! Along with a new season of football comes the return of myself versus Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force as to who can help YOU guys make the best picks on who is going to win each and every week of the NFL season. To kick off the first game of the season Carl has taken a surprising game, the Vikings vs Rams. I say it’s surprising because you would think he would take something with some Patriots or Cowboys or Giants. Nope…instead the Vikings vs the Rams. Click here to see who Carl is taking this week.

Now let’s break down who we got going today.

Minnesota Vikings

The last time the Vikings played the Rams, Adrian Peterson ran all of the fuck over the Rams D-line. That said, he’s coming off of a season where he battled injuries so I ponder if we are starting to see the decline of the star QB. Matt Cassel is the Vikings starting QB, and yes that’s a horrifying note. However, I’ve been a fan of the team’s new coach Mike Zimmer ever since he was coaching the defense of my Cowboys back during the Bill Parcells era and I gotta say, this is the best pickup Minnesota has made all year. Zimmer will definitely help a passing defense that finished second to last (ironically enough, Cowboys were last) and make them better, but I wonder if it will take a bit before we see any results. That said, I still feel confident that Minnesota takes this ball game, if for no other reason, the Rams have a 90-year old QB in Shaun Hill.

Of course, everyone is talking about the fact that the Rams had drafted the first openly gay player in the NFL, Michael Sam. Unfortunately, for Mike, he didn’t make the team but he didn’t stay a free agent for long as he now plays for my Dallas Cowboys. In any case, the Rams have one of THE best defensive lines in football featuring Michael Brockers, Chris Long and Robert Quinn. However, if the Rams wanna win this game, they are going to have to do it with Shaun Hill throwing the ball in the air which sucks because the Rams ranked in the bottom-half in passer rankings last season. Granted that was with journeyman Kellen Clemens behind the center, but Shaun Hill isn’t THAT much of an upgrade. Zac Stacy is a good running back, but I don’t know if that’s enough.
