Comics Review: Simpsons Illustrated #12

Feud, Glorious Feud

Dr. Hibbert throws a party as a ruse for everyone to get their flu shots, but uses a different medication when treating Flanders. This causes Ned to have an allergic reaction thereby giving him the insight to allow his kids to get out more and experience the world. This inspires Ned to take the kids on a trip while he leaves Cletus and his family as his house-sitter. This does NOT sit well with Homer as now he has new neighbors! And of course the family is going to bring the farm with them complete with cows, pigs, and more. This leads to a feud between the two families, but Lisa strikes up a relationship with Q-bert. Eventually, the warring gets SO bad, both families going to court leading to the revelation that Cletus and Homer are long-lost cousins and as such aren’t allowed to fight. This ends the feud, and the relationship between Lisa an Q-bert, but what about Flanders?

Metal as Anything

Frink develops a bunch of robots inspired by The Simpsons family to which Bartman isn’t too thrilled. At first this leads to a bit of a riff between our caped-crusader and the mecha-family, but eventually they team up to defeat a big huge blob before it causes any real damage.

Computer Hackles

Bart convinces Martin to get him past school restrictions so that he can go on his favorite website in exchange for a free lunch.

This quarter’s issue is a good one! We get a nice mix of stories featuring Frink, Angry Dad, even some Bartman thrown in there for good measure. That’s the key to the Illustrateds in my opinion. If Bongo wants to be profitable here, it’s key that they give us varied content. Not saying other comics that they produce are like this, but it’s key for the Illustrateds.
