Shorts Review: Cartoon Hangover Spacebear”
A breath of fresh air now in the fourth of this Summer’s Cartoon Hangover shorts. We’re headed off into space with Andy Helms and a bear.
Bears battling it out with space wizards sounds like my kind of summer fun and what do you know, it is. Spacebear is the new short by Andy Helms, the Graphic designer from Austin who wows thousands of followers with his witty ireverant and kooky designs-of-the-day over on his tumblr.
Spacebear is visually explosive with neon colours catching your eye from the outset. The action is non-stop and crazy and we’re rooting for titular hero Spacebear all the way.
This year’s shorts have had none of the cutesy action that we came to associate Cartoon Hangover last year, I think the ratio of genders is firmly on the male side this year where as last year we had some stunning cartoons from noted female creators, this year I can feel the testosterone. It’s a nice change of pace for Cartoon Hangover, more butt-kicking in general though there will always be those in the comments section who want more Bee and Puppycat or Doctor Lollipop. I’m not saying I prefer any particular style, Cartoon Hangover is genius because it brings us so many different takes on the art of the short, I’m merely stating that this year’s crop couldn’t be more different to last year’s.
Spacebear is truly out of this world and deserves to be a stellar hit! I’ll be watching Andy Helms more in future so here’s to more like Spacebear. .
Watch it here.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
