Animation Was UK’s Most Popular Film Type Last Year
In between eating fish & chips, drinking Guinness, and not brushing their teeth, folks in the United Kingdom and Ireland spent more of their time watching animated films than any other type in 2013, according to a report by the British Film Institute. Though only 4.7% of films released in the UK last year were animated, they made up a healthy 21.4% of the box office gross.
Thirty-three animated films were released in the UK last year, earning $419.9 million. (I won’t say that amount in British pounds, because America.) The top-earners were Despicable Me 2, Frozen, Monsters University, The Croods, and Wreck-It Ralph.
The complete movie genre chart is below, and you can view the full report on the British Film Institute’s website. Obviously this list only includes sales in theaters, because if it was really just about popularity, we all know hardcore pornography would be at the top – in any country.
