U.K. TV Station Apologizes for Airing Simpsons Profanity

Channel 4 in Britain recently apologized for airing an unedited version of a Simpsons episode at a time when young children may have been watching.

The episode had one offensive word, “bastard,” which was uttered by Krusty the Clown. If my deduction skills are accurate, I believe it was the classic episode, “Bart the Fink,” when Krusty throws a GPS system into the ocean and yells, “Tell me where you are now, you bastard!”

The network remarked that even though the word in question isn’t the strongest language (not much language on The Simpsons is) the episode aired at 6pm, which is well before the “watershed” time of 9pm. The gaffe was attributed to human error, as the episode was mistakenly marked appropriate for “all times.” It has since been corrected. (Phew!)

Channel 4 issued the apology after Ofcom (The United Kingdom Office of Communications) received numerous complaints from viewers. And by numerous, I mean seven. Seven! I bet some of those seven people don’t even have kids, but instead are just unnecessarily worried about the supposed breakdown of morality in today’s society and the bastardization of television.

That’s right. I went there.
