Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s…Cartoon Network?

Southwest Airlines has announced that it plans to add the kid-centric network to its in-flight live TV lineup, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

“The addition of Cartoon Network to our breadth of programming is a big win for Southwest and our customers,” said Kevin Krone, Southwest’s Chief Marketing Officer.

However, unlike competitors such as JetBlue, Southwest does not offer seatback entertainment screens. Instead, passengers can stream content to their own electronic devices using in-flight Wi-Fi and video options including Dish Network’s 20 live channels and 75 on-demand shows.

Although only 80% of aircraft are equipped with this service, it is, and always has been, free. Initially a promotion that was to expire at the end of last year, Southwest has extended the offer through the end of 2014.

No word on whether or not the service will remain complimentary in 2015, or if the Cartoon Network channel will include Adult Swim programming in the evenings. Keep that in mind when you want to freak out your seatmate by hosting a mini-marathon of Superjail! or King Star King.
