Comics Review: Bravest Warriors #22
Spoilers Ahead
When we last saw the Warriors, they were stuck on a lethal methane planet thanks to a rather evil teleporter. The friends were starting to argue amongst themselves when a hole opened beneath Chris, dropping both him and the maniacal teleporter into a deep trench. Just when the gang was about to save Chris, he was dragged away by a mysterious something.
Most of the group has begun to worry about Chris. Danny, meanwhile, thinks he will be just fine. Beth does not share that sentiment and leaps into the hole. She stomps off, flashlight in hand, to find her best friend. Shortly thereafter, the rest of the group jumps down to help her. As the gang follows Beth’s trail, Danny and Robo-Chris argue about whether they should save Beth and Chris or just turn back and make cayenne popcorn.
Flipping over to Beth, her flashlight dies before she can get very far in the underground cave. Just as it gets dark, she hears weird squelching noises behind her. And, no, it is not her friends.
The rest of the Warriors rejoin Beth as she is punching the crap out of some very ugly worm-like creatures. She is about to be overwhelmed when Plum jumps into the fight. Catbug even helps by tasering one of the creatures with Beth’s cell phone!
Together again, the group gets ready to continue their search. However, Danny has fallen behind. It appears that a child version of the worm-thing has been sucking on his stomach for awhile. That can’t be good.
Suddenly, Wallow finds a trap door in the floor of the cave. As they try to figure out whether they should go through the door, we join Chris, once again.
Chris is just waking up in a very strange place, wearing a very strange outfit. Yes, the noble leader of the Bravest Warriors is wearing a slave Leia costume. A couple of worms and a little boy start throwing things at poor Chris, trying to make him do what they want. (Well, OK, what they want is fried onions and soda. Nothing too terribly difficult.) Chris tries to refuse but they continue to throw things at him until he gives in.
Back with the Warriors, the gang is still trying to decide what to do with the trap door. They decide that just jumping in is a bad idea. Wallow finds a side tunnel that will allow them to sneak in unnoticed. But that is for next time!
The side story in this issue is called “Stinky Screaming Man.” The Warriors have decided to have dinner at the Eat-It-All buffet, where it is all you can eat for $9.99. Danny, however, hates this place because it gives him the “crazy toots.” As they exit the establishment, they come up on a small green baby slug-like-thing. Of course, they decide to take it home.
On the way home, all of them notice a terrible smell. The baby starts screaming its…head (?) off. The gang tries everything they can to stop both the awful smell and the extreme screaming. Nothing seems to work. It isn’t until Danny lets out the hugest fart ever that the rest of the gang admits that they, too, have dealt what they all have smelt. Once they all take some fart relief medication, everyone returns to their happy (and quiet) selves.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the side story in this issue, the main story seems to be moving very slowly. It feels like they are trying to drag out their journey for as long as possible. There isn’t a lot that actually happened story-wise. In my opinion, if they want to drag it out a bit, don’t follow the Warriors walking down a tunnel. Show what was happening to Chris while he was unconscious or something. I’m sure there is plenty of material they could have used to make it a little more interesting. Hopefully, the next issue will be more action-packed.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
