Shorts Review: Stoopid Buddy Shortz – “Moonbase Sidekick”

This short hits a couple of famous space movies in the nuts with some classic fart humor and whiney characters. It opens on two astronauts, Jerry and August, in a physical altercation on what appears to be a moon-base (I wonder where I got that idea…) while a panicky wall-mounted robot (not unlike that of 2001: A Space Odyssey) begs them to calm down. August has a substantial edge on Jerry and throws him around the station like a rag doll.

The remainder of the short consists of them flashing back and forth between the fight and the minutes leading up to the fight. With some fairly clever time jokes and foreshadowing, the short culminates in the discovery that the fight was started by Jerry farting into the air tube of August’s space suit, referencing the classic space movie Alien with the line “in space, nobody can hear you fart.” The camera zooms out on the moon as you hear Jerry point out that they’re in space in begin manically laughing. While some points seemed a bit confusing, this short had funny moments and an interesting twist on space classics.
