Twitter Recap AMA: Matt Selman talks up LEGO Simpsons special

Executive Producer Matt Selman was nice enough to live-tweet not only the East Coast run, but the West Coast feed of the Simpsons-LEGO cross over episode that was held last night on FOX. Suffice it to say the episode was pure brilliance and certainly reaffirmed The Simpsons as the premier animated franchise on FOX, no questions asked. That said, there was a BUNCH of money and effort put into this week’s episode and Matt was there to fill us in on a few important notes:
For starters, ”Brick Like Me” was the title choice for the episode, but Matt tells us that there were a BUNCH more that the producers went through before they settled on the winner:
REJECTED TITLES: Lego My Episode / Springfield Block party / Lego Land / There Will Be Stud / Brick or Treat #THESIMPSONS

Matt Selman also dished on the aesthetic of the characters, preferring to go with a more classic look:
We gave the LEGO Simpsons classic cylinder heads because of 1) ease of animation and 2) 40something nostalgia #THESIMPSONS — Matt Selman (@mattselman) May 5, 2014
You may remember a scene where Marge is cooking breakfast for her family, and Matt had some insight to offer on the eggs used in the first scene:
The single yellow circle stud is the smallest unit of LEGO available to represent scrambled eggs. #THESIMPSONS

During the course of the evening, Matt had a couple of Fun Facts, all of which were more hysterical than the last like:
Fun Fact: Homer’s belief that playing with your kids is incredibly boring is 100% true. #THESIMPSONS — Matt Selman (@mattselman) May 5, 2014
FUN FACT: Warner Bros paid $10 million dollars to use Milhouse in The LEGO Movie. They got their money’s worth. #THESIMPSONS — Matt Selman (@mattselman) May 5, 2014

That Warner Bros. note was QUITE interesting. But, it just goes to show that Chris Miller and Phil Lord (creators of Clone High) had ideas in mind and they were willing to pay up. And Matt is right! They certainly got their money’s worth because The LEGO Movie brought in a HUGE pay day and made Warner Bros. Animation relevant again.
You can check out more notes from Matt Selman here, and then tune in next week as The Simpsons return this Sunday Night on FOX @ 8 pm ET/PT, check your local listings!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
