Review: Phineas and Ferb Save Summer

Spoilers Below

If you were expecting the typical Phineas and Ferb intro, guess what? Not even close, but what the show uses to kick off instead was a lot of fun. However, the part that doesn’t make sense, is that the  Phineas and Ferb band sing all about the world’s summer, but really the summers of the world are different so I’m not sure we really tackled that.

Turns out the OWCA is holding a graduation ceremony whilst the evil Love Muffins are having a disservice awards ceremony…in the same room. This leads to a big ass royal rumble. The Monogram gets fired leaving Carl to take charge. In any case, the whole thing was a VR stunt and Perry had to leave anyway.  Candace deals with the fact that her parents are going cave sperlunking, but she comes across a VHS, but with no way of playing it. Lynn and Larry decide to ‘lose themselves’ while Candace watches said tape. We learn that Candace recorded this tape in the past with a list of things she has to do including overcoming her fear of spiders.

Perry stops by Doof’s HQ and sets off Doof’s -inator which causes the Earth to move away from the sun so that no one would need sunscreen anymore. Phineas and the kids decide to investigate the sudden gravity shifts. With the parents enjoying time to themselves, Perry returns to OWCA HQ where he notices all of the animals going nuts without Major. Monty stops by and calls Carl out on his bull shit and tells him to man up. We find out Major is working in fast food with Candace’s boyfriend, but he quits. Stacy and Candace are continuing on their list, but Candace wants nothing to do with spiders. Perry saves the mayor from a town riot, and the kids are trying to figure out what the hell is going on with their summer.

The kids figure out that the Earth has moved, but how? Welp, Monty heads to Doof HQ to hear the bad guys are getting ready for world domination, but not if the kids have anything to say about it. Cue a West Side Story bit where Love Muffin goes around squashing OWCA at every turn. Thankfully, the Ferb-Fletcher parents don’t seem to mind the outside as they are underground and Candace might as well be underground because she’s just hanging out in her room yelling about spiders. When she gets wind of summer being ruined, Candace confronts Phineas and Ferb despite the fact that Love Muffin are holding a press conference. Turns out these guys have a bunch of demands and they are threatening to turn the world into another Ice Age.

Kids around the world are teaming up to create rockets so that they can move the Earth back to where it belongs. Unfortunately, they get to a point where Love Muffin is still stating their demands, but the world needs Candace to go into the spidery attic to get something. Minor and Perry head to Love Muffin with Carl where they try to break in, but get chased off by fat people. Major springs back into action with Doof who wants no more winter. He fights it out with Love Muffin while Candace gets into her attic. A hologram-Phineas tries to convince Candace to get past her fears, while the OWCA and Love Muffin go at it. Candace grabs Ferb’s part, and the engines are ready to be rocked. Earth is saved, and Major is reinstated. The kids play us out, and now we’re partying.

It’s been a while since we wrote about Phineas and Ferb, and yea I’m starting to miss it. Thankfully, this new special does JUST fine me in bringing us all of the things that we love about the show. Big songs, epic sci-fi moments, and LOTS of Doofiness. That said, the only song I really liked through the whole special was the heavy metal song Irving was singing. The West Side deal was kind of boring, but I thought Doof’s constant complaining was hysterical. I would have liked a bit more time with the cave sperlunking, but I could understand because Candace’s spider fears proved to be an important piece to the puzzle later on. LOTs of my favorite recurring characters showed up like Norm, Monty, and a few others, but I was rather surprised we had NO appearance by Vanessa Doof. But, I really can’t complain…those longing for new Phineas, this is for you.
