It looks as though another season of Family Guy has come and gone. It’s amazing to think that this show has reached it’s twelfth season, and will be coming back for a thirteenth! A lot of my peers have moved on from the show, but as long as there are new laughs to be had, I’ll stick by it. So, how about we review this season finale!

In “Chap Stewie” we find Stewie settled in to enjoy his favorite British drama. Things don’t work out for Stewie when Peter and Chris show up and destroy the TV with one of their games. In an angry fit, Stewie constructs a new time machine to go back in time to prevent his own birth. When he achieves success, his soul is finds it’s way to the United Kingdom where Stewie is born into a family of high nobility.

“Chap Stewie” won’t go down as one of my favorite season finales for the show. With that said, I did enjoy a few things about it. The first thing is that it was really funny. This episode didn’t lack any humor. The second thing I enjoyed was that the episode was a Stewie story. I think it was last week that I mentioned I was starting to miss him, so it was nice to they wanted to wrap up the season with a story dedicated to him. The story itself was kind of neat. It sort of gives us a look at what life would be like if Stewie had been born into a family that shares his accent, one he thinks he best identifies with.

There were a few things I found this episode was lacking as well. Just as an episode itself, this wasn’t horrible. This is the season finale though and it didn’t really feel like it. I found that the episode as a whole was very underwhelming for a season finale. Usually you’d expect a season to end with a big hoorah, but this just didn’t feel like that to me. Another problem I had was with the time machine being brought back. I thought the show had moved on from that thing, but it fell back into what was comfortable. I feel like the show writers don’t know what to do with Stewie if he isn’t going around through time. If you wanted to make this episode about Stewie and maintain the season finale ending, I would have liked them to bring in Ralo to help Stewie or be his enemy! He is another talking infant on the same street as Stewie, I fully expect a relationship of some sort to spark eventually.

Overall, this was an okay episode. I feel like they should have swapped this episode with last week’s episode though. I tend to be harder on season finales because I look for that extra something that makes it feel like a finale, but I didn’t pick up on that here. If last week had been the finale, the Brown family returning to town would have brought that missing element. I thought they had another story in place for the finale that would feature a member of the Brown family, but they were a no-show last night. There were a lot of funny moments during last night’s episode though, and I think it was good all things considered.
