Comics Review: The Simpsons #211

This book is the literal opposite of Simpsons Comics. Instead of one story that spans the issue, this is a bunch of shorts that Comic Book Guy coerced a bunch of writers and artists  into doing. These are up on his wall, and is giving us a look at what he put together. Eventually, this is going to be a book, complete with an ad for Kwik-E-Mart. There’s even horoscopes and Homer’s quest for the last doughnut.

Instead of going over all of the shorts, I am going to go over the ones that stand out.

“Wild Animal Planet Kingdom” portrays the Simpsons as a wild family, complete with Homer’s dislocating snake jaw. “An Unconventional Romance” gives Comic Book Guy what he will never get: a sexy cos-player that actually likes him and wants to be around him. He then ruins everything because she likes Bongo Comics. “Dolph and Nelson Ponder Their Existence” isn’t here for a remarkable, once in a lifetime story, because the “bully deciding on doing the right thing or not” trope has been done before. What strikes me here is the different style the short has. Ralph actually kind of looks like Steven Universe with how the whole comic looks.

Most of the shorts have the characters looking like it was 1987 all over again. With one or two shorts, I can dig it. But all but two looking the same, it kind of drags. There also wasn’t a lot of substance with these shorts, meaning that it was over before you realized. You were left expecting more. If you’re looking for a quick distraction, you got it right here.
